A long time ago, in 2006, I had a class at SVA on illustration for the stage. My final project for the class was a set of costumes for a play of my choice. I decided to illustrate costumes for 'Queen Margot: A Play in Five Acts' by Alexandre Dumas. I had recently read a biography of Catherine de Medici, and I really wanted to illustrate something having to do with that historical period. This is the costume for the main character, Margot. She is based on the real-life princess, Marguerite de Valois, whose marriage to Henry of Navarre sparked off the infamous St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre.
